I believe we all can be misled, miss the mark, listen to the wrong voice. I don’t care who you are or how spiritual (godly) you think yourself to be, sometime in your life (and I’d wager more than once) this has happened to you. I know of several different occasions someone has come online beaming and praising God for bringing just the most perfect person into your life. He was absolutely hand picked by God just for you. God is definitely in this! And then a short time later they’re back crying the blues, he was not such a godly man. He’s an abuser, drinker or whatever and it’s over. Oops God, you made a mistake! The one who is totally perfection made a mistake? I don’t think so. Could it have been that you were listening to a different voice other than Holy Spirit? Nah, not you…you’re too spiritual! You can’t be deceived! Eck! Wrong answer. We all can if the circumstance is just right. Continue reading
In this world we live in, that which is broken is without value. We generally try to avoid conditions of brokenness with our finances, our emotions, and our relationships with others. But carefully note this about God’s kingdom, there is a large contrast here between the will of God and the will of man. And unfortunately, in this world we establish our own pecking order. We tend to place people in social levels based upon their wealth, education, or status. We think we know “our place” and we unconsciously place some people below us in the social order, and a few above us. But the ground is level at the foot of the cross. Continue reading
Intro: Imagine you’re crawling, scorched, near death, across a hot burning desert. You are dying of thirst and close to dying, literally. But, ahead, you see a sign that reads, “Cool, clear, life-giving water… only five miles ahead”. This sign gives you renewed energy, new hope and you continue your crawl across the dry scorching desert. As you arrive at the promised place, you see a magnificent building, radiant in its beauty, the sign outside invites you in, even beckoning you with the promise of life giving water.
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them He said: “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, even their own life…such a person cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow Me cannot be My disciple. Continue reading
Let me say this from the onset…I’m a tongue talking Holy Spirit believing Charismatic Pentecostal and love to move with flow of the Spirit of God. I love it when Holy Spirit moves in a service but it grieves my heart when I hear of the rise of strange manifestations in the name of the Holy Spirit….manifestations that are certainly not of God. Wild fire or strange fire is what it’s often referred to. Let me tell you right from the start…. Holy Spirit is a gentleman, He doesn’t come to make us spiritual fruits, flakes and nuts. He’s not into making fruit cakes! The Holy Ghost comes to convict us of sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of judgment. He comes to comfort us, to counsel us, to help us. Holy Spirit makes us more stable, not less stable. He keeps us under control, He doesn’t make us lose control. Continue reading
I believe there may be something in each of us that desires greatness, that wants to be great, that wants to be special, that wants to stand out, that wants to be a person of distinction, that wants to be someone ‘important’. Martin Luther King, Jr. argued that we all have this desire and he called it the drum major instinct in one of his famous sermons. Some long to be the fire that starts the revival! To be a ‘star’ revivalist and have our name up in lights! To be on TV, be another Joyce Meyers, Beth Moore or T.D. Jakes..to have people come from all over just to hear us preach.
Discerning women don’t want to hear pastors twist and sugar coat God’s Word to suit their own needs. The Bible is not about us, our problems, and making all our hopes and dreams come true. God is not our ‘genie in a bottle’ nor is He Santa Claus. We don’t want to hear seeker-driven or ‘Word of Faith’ false doctrine. We don’t need self-improvement motivational speeches or a list of life tips to follow. We want to hear a pastor rightly handle God’s word and simply present the truth of the word led by Holy Spirit. If Holy Spirit is not in control we don’t want to be there. Continue reading
